WHAT'S A FOOD CO-OP?

We are a Member-owned grocer. Membership is open to any resident of California. Democracy governs the co-op, one Member, one vote. Members sustain the business with their equity and patronage of it, and enjoy material benefits of ownership. We think this old-fashioned model of local independence is the most effective way to build strong, vibrant communities.

Cooperative business means community health and empowerment. We are the place at the table. For the public, quality local foods and service; for Members, a grocer with the benefits of independent and industrious self-ownership.

Food matters. It connects to the bigger picture of wholeness and health. The Riverside Food Co-op's goal is not to paint a self-portrait, but a landscape. We’re active in slowing the loss of farmland, boosting environmental intelligence, and flexing social strength.

Riverside bursts with fresh flavors to share. Our strength is seasonal produce picked for ripeness, not storage and preservatives or travel and pollutants that come with global “food miles.” Meet the farmers. Ask them about their farms, their purpose, their practices.

“Healthful local food for a stronger Riverside.” Our 2019-2020 financial statement shows our commitment to local business and healthy Riverside communities. We expanded the scope of our enterprise while stabilizing the Riverside Food Co-op’s core independent operation. Our challenge is to invest in ways that mutually strengthen our programs, our supply chain, and our support network. We grow the roots to grow the fruits.
